Labasa Coach Ravneel Pratap emphasizes the need for defensive improvements ahead of their crucial Group A match in the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship against host Lautoka tonight. Despite achieving a 3-1 victory over Suva in their opening game yesterday, Pratap acknowledged that their defense faced significant challenges and was frequently tested.
“Our goalkeeper and captain, Simione Tamanisau, had to step in and make key saves for the defenders multiple times, and we must address this before facing another tough opponent,” he noted. He highlighted that Lautoka features some of the best attackers in the country, underscoring the importance of not being complacent and maintaining defensive pressure.
Pratap reflected on their performance against Suva, saying, “Overall, we were strong and needed this win to kick off our campaign positively. A victory is always a great morale booster. Our earlier struggles in the BOG serve as valuable lessons and stepping stones for us moving forward.”
He also mentioned that the wet and slippery pitch posed difficulties, but they need to adapt and adjust tactics accordingly. “We cannot complain too much since all teams are dealing with the same conditions. Our focus should be on planning and strategizing effectively to ensure quick adjustments,” he added.
