The Extra Supermarket Labasa football team returned to form with a 2-0 victory over Nasinu during their Digicel Fiji Premier League (DFPL) match at Subrail Park on Saturday. This win allowed Labasa to secure the second position in the DFPL standings.
Labasa’s striker Tigi Molea opened the scoring in the first half with a powerful shot from within the 18-yard box, giving his team a 1-0 lead. In the 80th minute, young player Jone Lalagavesi doubled Labasa’s advantage.
Coach Ravneel Pratap expressed his satisfaction with the victory, noting its significance in maintaining their second place on the points table. He emphasized the importance of the game, especially with challenging matches ahead.
Labasa recovered from their recent disappointing results, including a 1-1 draw against Nadi and Tailevu/Naitasiri in the previous rounds. The team will next face Ba in Round 17 of the DFPL on Viti Levu.
Pratap praised the players for their improved decision-making during the game, highlighting that they avoided risky passes that had troubled them in earlier matches. He stressed the importance of keeping a distance from other teams like Lautoka, who are currently in third place and could challenge for the second spot.
He also congratulated Lalagavesi for scoring in his debut match for Labasa in the DFPL, noting that it was a significant achievement for the young player.
