Boxer Joseph Kwadjo made a significant mark last Saturday by achieving a technical knockout victory over Robin Hazelman, securing the cruiserweight title at the Bluewater Boxing Promotions event held at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

In what became an electrifying bout, Kwadjo overwhelmed Hazelman, sending him to the canvas in the second round with a series of powerful strikes. The intensity of Kwadjo’s performance thwarted Hazelman’s ability to continue fighting, leading to the referee’s decision to stop the contest.

Before the match, both fighters expressed mutual respect while conveying their readiness to engage in a fierce competition. Kwadjo, inspired by boxing legend Mike Tyson’s philosophy, emphasized the importance of having a game plan in the ring. He was well-prepared, having trained extensively for almost ten weeks alongside his coaching team, including trainers Sebastian Singh and Dustyn Foster.

Reflecting on his victory, Kwadjo shared his joy, attributing it to the hard work and dedication put forth by himself and his trainers. “We train for ten rounds; we don’t train for a knockout, but if it happens, it happens,” he noted, suggesting a tactical approach to his training rather than solely going for powerful finishes.

Hazelman, confident in his preparations before the bout, expressed great anticipation about stepping into the ring with Kwadjo, recognizing his opponent’s power but suggesting a lack of speed in Kwadjo’s approach. Despite the setback in this fight, Hazelman’s aspirations to prove his worth in the boxing arena remain. His family serves as his source of motivation, as he remains determined to deliver strong performances moving forward.

This match showcased the competitive spirit and dedication of both boxers, bringing excitement to fans and highlighting the vibrant local boxing scene. As Kwadjo celebrates this victory, all eyes will be on Hazelman as he seeks redemption in future bouts, as he remains committed to proving himself in this thrilling sport.
