Former cruiserweight champion Joseph Kwadjo is looking forward to a potential matchup against former WBO world champion John Parker, who is the younger brother of the heavyweight champion, Joseph Parker. Kwadjo’s next challenge is against Robin Hazelman this Saturday at the Vodafone Arena in Suva. He expressed that the outcome of this fight may set the stage for facing Parker, should he emerge victorious.
Kwadjo is confident about his performance, stating that he aims to go the distance in their ten-round contest but remains open to a knockout if the opportunity arises. He emphasized that this fight has been a long time coming, as they were originally slated to meet five years ago.
“I’m looking forward to going all of the ten rounds, but if a knockout happens, it happens. I want to win this fight. After this fight, we’re planning to bring John Parker from New Zealand,” Kwadjo mentioned.
The Ghanaian fighter has credited his supportive training team from his boxing academy and the Uptown boxing gym for their assistance, noting that they have been instrumental in his preparations. Kwadjo is grateful that he has faced no major hurdles leading into the bout, and he feels ready to challenge himself every day.
In the wake of a five-month hiatus of local boxing events due to a tragic incident in October at the South Pacific Boxing Promotion, Kwadjo has urged boxing fans to rally and support his return to the ring. He acknowledged the backing he has received from his team, sponsors, and fellow boxers involved in the Bluewater Boxing Promotions.
The upcoming fight adds excitement to the boxing scene in Fiji, especially following Fiji’s cruiserweight champion Alifereti Kauyaca’s previous match where he faced John Parker, losing by a split points decision. This context amplifies Kwadjo’s motivation and adds depth to the narrative surrounding potential fights in the region.
Overall, boxing enthusiasts can anticipate an electrifying matchup, and the outcome of Kwadjo’s fight may pave the way for more dynamic bouts in the future, potentially increasing interest and participation in local boxing events in Fiji.
