Papua New Guinea Kumuls scrum-half Lachlan Lam has expressed his team’s readiness to face the Vodafone Fiji Bati in the upcoming Pacific Bowl. Speaking in Suva, Lam acknowledged that the Bati would be favored due to their home advantage but emphasized the Kumuls’ determination.
“They are a good side,” Lam remarked, reflecting on past encounters with the Fiji team. Despite their long-standing rivalry, he is eager to compete again this weekend. Lam, the son of NRL legend Adrian Lam, made his first NRL appearance for the Sydney Roosters in 2019. He highlighted the Kumuls’ focus on securing the championship title at HFC Bank Stadium on Saturday.
Lam noted the Bati’s formidable players, including Viliame Kikau and premiership winner Sunia Turuva, but stated that their presence would not alter the Kumuls’ preparation. He will be partnering with Kyle Laybutt in the halves, aiming to create opportunities during the match.
“It will be a great day of footy, and we hope to put forth our best effort to defend our title,” Lam added. The Kumuls are the reigning Pacific Bowl champions and are committed to winning again.
Nene Macdonald, full-back for the Kumuls, shared his excitement about playing in Fiji, noting it has always been a dream for the team. With 16 Test appearances under his belt, Macdonald stressed the importance of performing well in the next few weeks to secure a spot in next year’s main Cup.
“We believe in ourselves and our capabilities. We aspire to reach new heights,” he said, anticipating a challenging yet exhilarating match against the Bati.
The match is set to kick off at 8:10 PM.
