The Fiji Bati rugby league team is preparing to compete against the Papua New Guinea Kumuls in the upcoming Pacific Nations Cup match, scheduled for the 19th of this month at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. The Kumuls are eager to avenge their loss from last year, when the Bati defeated them decisively, 43-16, on their home ground.
Fiji Bati Head Coach Wise Kativerata recognizes the determination of the Kumuls and is bracing for a challenging encounter. He underscored the necessity of maintaining focus and reaffirmed that the team’s primary objective is to prioritize the Fiji Bati.
“This year, the squad features a combination of experienced players and talented newcomers, resulting in a well-rounded team ready for the competition,” Kativerata remarked. He has been in close contact with the seasoned players during the team’s preparations and acknowledges the Kumuls’ drive to win.
Kativerata praised PNG coach Jason for his enthusiastic support of the team and their ambitions to improve their standing in the National Rugby League. He views this development as a positive advancement for both the Pacific region and the sport of rugby league itself.
“PNG coach Jason has made it clear to his team that winning is essential for them to progress to the next level, especially with the interest from the PNG and Australian governments in securing a National Rugby League team. This is beneficial for the Pacific and for rugby league overall,” Kativerata stated.
