Kumuls Gear Up for Thrilling Showdown Against Fiji Bati!

Papua New Guinea Kumuls scrum-half Lachlan Lam expressed confidence heading into their match against the Vodafone Fiji Bati. In an interview in Suva, the 26-year-old acknowledged that the Bati would be seen as favorites due to their home ground advantage but emphasized their determination to compete.

“They (Bati) are a good side,” Lam said, reflecting on past encounters but asserting their readiness to take on the challenge. As the son of Adrian Lam, a former NRL star with significant accolades, Lachlan made his own NRL debut with the Sydney Roosters in 2019. He highlighted that despite the Bati’s strong lineup, including notable players like Viliame Kikau and Sunia Turuva, his team remains focused on their own game plan.

Lam will partner with Kyle Laybutt in the halves for the Kumuls as they aim to defend their title at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva this Saturday night. He praised Laybutt’s abilities and expressed a desire to create scoring opportunities during the match.

“We hope to be the best and defend it on that day,” he stated, reaffirming their commitment to winning and supporting each other both on and off the field. The Kumuls are indeed the reigning champions of the Pacific Bowl and are fully motivated to retain their title.

Full-back Nene Macdonald also shared his enthusiasm, stating that playing in Fiji has always been a dream for the team. Having represented PNG in 16 Tests, he emphasized the importance of the upcoming weeks in securing a spot in the main Cup next year.

“We believe in ourselves; we believe that we can do it,” he said, indicating the team’s aspiration for success. Both players expect a strong and exciting match this weekend, which kicks off at 8:10 PM.
