Kumar’s Bold Comeback: Will He Shine in the Ring After Two Decades?

Amit Kumar from Taveuni weighed in at 76.3 kg ahead of today’s South Pacific Boxing Promotion (SPBP) event in Nair Dias. He expressed his commitment to perform at his best during the competition. His opponent, Mikaele Marisi from the Lautoka Happy Gloves boxing club, weighed in at 75.2 kg.

Kumar, who is making a return to the ring after a 20-year hiatus since his last fight in 2004, confirmed he is prepared for the 4×3 event. “I have been training for a month now and feel great, and I will give my best shot,” he stated.

Mohammed Shameem, the director of South Pacific Boxing Promotion, highlighted the significance of this event for local boxers to showcase their skills. He noted, “We have organized three IBO sanctioned fights, which is unprecedented in Fiji, and we are committed to supporting local talent.”

Shameem also mentioned the potential for a larger event next May if everything goes well.

On the fight card, Jnr Abhay Chand will compete against Vitori Cabalevu in a 6×3 match. Additionally, Apisai Naciqa will face Marika Kavika, Manoa Tuiyaro will challenge Ezra Volavola, and Amo Wati will take on Maureen Neumia in the only female bout scheduled at 4×2.
