KPMG has announced the launch of the Nature Positive Challenge, aimed at fostering eco-startups by providing innovative ideas, solutions, and technologies that promote nature-positive outcomes. This year’s challenge will focus on two key themes: a regenerative economy and sustainable food systems, both of which hold significant importance for Fiji and the South Pacific region.
Participants in the challenge will compete for a share of a $250,000 pool of services, which includes access to KPMG’s business leaders and specialized teams to help elevate their ventures. The grand prize, known as the KPMG Nature Positive Prize, offers $100,000 to the winning startup as an unconditional cash prize. An additional $20,000 will be awarded to one of the five finalists through a ‘People’s Choice’ vote conducted by KPMG staff.
KPMG will also link these startups with valuable partners across various industries, businesses, scientific communities, and impact investors. Previous winners of the KPMG Nature Positive Challenge include Uluu, a biotech company focused on plastic alternatives that successfully raised $8 million in seed funding, and Xylo Systems, a biodiversity data platform startup that anticipates reaching $1 million in revenue next year.
Camille Goldstone-Henry, Co-founder and CEO of Xylo Systems, remarked, “Winning the KPMG Nature Positive Challenge was a game-changer for us. The funding accelerated the launch of our platform, positioning us as a leader in biodiversity tech and attracting global clients. Partnering with KPMG’s nature and biodiversity experts sharpened our alignment with global nature frameworks, further enhancing our value to international customers.”
This year, with a combined value of AUD370,000 in advisory support and prize money available, KPMG is inviting applications from innovative ventures focused on generating nature-positive outcomes. The submission period for the KPMG Nature Positive Challenge is open from October 10 to November 8, 2024.
