KPMG has announced the launch of the Nature Positive Challenge, aimed at promoting eco-startups and fostering innovative ideas, solutions, and technologies that contribute to positive environmental outcomes. This year, the challenge will focus on two key themes: the regenerative economy and sustainable food systems, both of which are particularly relevant to Fiji and the South Pacific region.
The challenge will offer five selected ventures a share of a $250,000 pool, which includes access to KPMG’s business leaders and specialized teams to help advance their initiatives. The top venture will receive the KPMG Nature Positive Prize of $100,000 as a no-strings-attached cash grant. Additionally, one of the five finalists will be awarded $20,000 based on a ‘People’s Choice’ vote conducted by KPMG staff.
KPMG plans to connect the participating startups with valuable industry, business, scientific, and community partners, as well as impact investors. Previous winners of the KPMG Nature Positive Challenge include Uluu, a biotech company focused on plastic alternatives that has raised $8 million in seed funding and partnered with Quiksilver, and Xylo Systems, a biodiversity data platform startup on track to achieve $1 million in turnover next year.
Camille Goldstone-Henry, Co-founder and CEO of Xylo Systems, noted that winning the KPMG Nature Positive Challenge significantly impacted their business. The funding helped accelerate the launch of their platform, establishing them as leaders in biodiversity technology and attracting international clients. They also benefited from collaboration with KPMG’s experts in nature and biodiversity, enhancing their alignment with global nature frameworks.
With a total of AUD370,000 in combined advisory support and prize money available this year, KPMG is inviting applications from innovative ventures that focus on ideas, solutions, and technologies fostering nature-positive outcomes. The application window for the KPMG Nature Positive Challenge opens on Thursday, October 10, and closes on Friday, November 8, 2024.
Please note that any monetary amounts awarded to local Fijian winners will be disbursed in local Fijian currency.
