KPMG Fiji’s Renu Chand: A Legacy of Leadership and Community Impact as She Retires

Renu Chand, who has served as Partner in Charge of Business and Tax Advisory at KPMG Fiji, is set to retire at the end of next month after nearly 20 years with the firm.

Ms. Chand began her career at KPMG Fiji in the Business Services Group as a senior manager on January 30, 2005, and became a partner in January 2007. In a tribute, Managing Partner Lisa Apted acknowledged the significant roles Ms. Chand has played within the company, which included positions such as Head of People, Performance & Culture, Chief Information Officer, and most recently, Partner in Charge of Fiji Business & Tax Advisory Services.

Apted highlighted Ms. Chand’s substantial contributions, including her key role in the establishment of the Fiji Dynamix and the opening of the new Nadi office in 2023, following KPMG’s integration with its Australian counterparts. She praised Chand’s leadership and commitment to client service, noting that her reputation as a trusted professional is reflected in the caliber of her diverse client base.

In preparation for Ms. Chand’s departure, the transition of her client engagements is already in progress, with personal introductions to new engagement partners being arranged. Apted emphasized the firm’s dedication to maintaining service continuity and quality throughout this transition.

Ms. Chand has also held notable positions outside of KPMG, including being the past president and treasurer of the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants, and the first female member from Fiji to achieve fellowship with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. She was the immediate past president of the Fiji New Zealand Business Council, where she recently led a successful joint conference featuring both countries’ Prime Ministers.

Outside of her professional achievements, Ms. Chand is involved with various non-profit organizations and plans to dedicate more time to charitable work post-retirement, with a particular focus on child safety, women’s opportunities, and workplace diversity.

In her retirement, she intends to take a well-deserved break, spending quality time with her family, including her parents and three daughters living abroad. She also has plans for deep-sea fishing in some of Fiji’s most treasured spots and will participate in New Zealand’s Taranaki Garden Festival.

Apted concluded by expressing the firm’s gratitude for Ms. Chand’s leadership and mentorship, as well as extending thanks to her family for their support throughout her career. The farewell was described as “sota tale,” reflecting the fond memories and impact Ms. Chand has had on her colleagues and the firm as a whole.
