Northern New City Tourism Development Pte Limited has initiated an ambitious multi-million-dollar tourism project in Korovatu, Labasa. The development is situated near the popular Korovatu picnic area, with picturesque views of Mali Island and Malau, and was recently visited by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Communications, Manoa Kamikamica.

Managing Director Ma Xianlin, a tourism developer from China, first visited Fiji as a tourist in 2018 and subsequently acquired the 151-acre site in 2022. Xianlin expressed gratitude to Investment Fiji for their support and guidance throughout the process. He noted that the project has already seen an investment of approximately $5 million, which has primarily gone into upgrading the site. Plans for the development include a hotel, a resort, guest houses, a cantilever swimming pool, a mini cable car, and mountain top steps, aiming to enhance the region’s attractiveness to visitors.

Work began on the project last year, with an expected completion timeline of five years, unfolding in phases. Xianlin acknowledged that a substantial amount of work remains to bring this major tourism attraction in Vanua Levu to fruition.

Deputy Prime Minister Kamikamica shared his enthusiasm for the project’s early progress, highlighting the stunning views it promises to offer tourists and locals alike. He expressed optimism that the Northern region’s residents will soon enjoy a lifestyle enriched by various tourism activities similar to those found abroad. Kamikamica also encouraged Xianlin to seek assistance from the government as needed.

This development in Korovatu holds great promise for boosting tourism and the local economy, fostering job creation, and enhancing the overall lifestyle of people in the region. As more projects like this unfold, they pave the way for a brighter future for local communities dependent on tourism.
