Apisai Koroisau, the hooker for the Fiji Bati, will miss the upcoming NRL round 18 clash against the Roosters due to concussion. This development comes after Koroisau suffered a significant hit during the Wests Tigers’ sixth consecutive loss of the season, a match in which they fell to Manly 28-10.
Koroisau was concussed after colliding with the knee of a Manly player in the second half, leading to his classification as a Category 1 concussion. According to league protocols, this classification places him under an automatic 11-day stand-down, preventing him from participating in the Tigers’ next game.
The Tigers are already dealing with notable absences, including that of fellow Bati player Jahream Bula and New South Wales Blues star Jerome Luai. In a related development, Luai has been named in the Blues’ squad for the Origin 3 match against the Maroons next week.
This unfortunate injury to Koroisau further complicates the Tigers’ efforts to turn their season around but also highlights the ongoing challenges players face regarding safety and health in professional sports. While the Tigers may struggle in Koroisau’s absence, it also opens an opportunity for other players to step up and show their potential.
The Fiji Bati is scheduled to begin their Pacific Bowl campaign against Papua New Guinea on October 19, followed by a match against the Cook Islands the next week, where the team will look to build momentum despite the challenges off the field.
