Fiji-born former Wallabies winger Marika Koroibete continues to make headlines in Japan, having scored a try in the Saitama Wild Knights’ commanding 33-3 victory over the Mitsubishi Sagamihara Dynaboars last weekend. This impressive win maintains the Wild Knights’ unbeaten streak this season, following significant victories over Toshiba Brave Lupus Tokyo and Samu Kerevi’s Urayasu D-Rocks.
Koroibete, who wrapped up his international career last year with a total of 63 Tests for Australia, showcased his skills by executing a slick lineout maneuver that allowed him to race away untouched for his try. At 33 years old, he has proven to be an instrumental presence in Japan Rugby League One, despite stepping back from Test rugby.
This matchup also featured captain Atsushi Sakate, who contributed two tries, alongside an additional score from Shota Fukui, as the Wild Knights dominated the game and solidified their position at the top of the league standings as they approach the New Year.
As the Wild Knights prepare to host Shizuoka BlueRevs in round four, they look to maintain their perfect start to the season. Koroibete’s performance and the team’s consistency reflect a hopeful trajectory for both him and the club as they continue to compete at a high level in Japan.
