The Minister of Justice, Siromi Turaga, is urging parents on Koro Island to enroll their children in Koro High School rather than schools in urban areas, citing social issues prevalent on Viti Levu. This appeal was made during a talanoa session held in Nasau Village, Mudu, Koro.

Mr. Turaga emphasized the importance of safeguarding children, particularly as Koro High School will soon offer Year 13 classes. He highlighted the stark differences in safety between Koro and urban settings, pointing out the dangerous circumstances that children may face in cities. He encouraged parents to prioritize their children’s welfare by choosing Koro High School as a stepping stone before they transition to tertiary education.

In addition, Mr. Turaga announced the introduction of new programs at Koro High School, including Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiatives. He also mentioned that the Government has decided to allocate a salary for the school chaplain, recognizing the role of spiritual guidance in education.

The Tui Nasau of Nasau Village, Vonevate Vetaukula, shared that the village plans to purchase internet data from Starlink Services to enhance educational resources for students. Currently, Koro High School serves approximately 300 students.
