Koro High School Celebrates Historic Cadet Pass Out Parade

Koro High School held its inaugural Cadet Pass Out Parade on Friday, marking fifty-four years since the school’s founding. The event, attended by the local community, was reviewed by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew, who noted the significance of the occasion in shaping the future of the students.

In his address, Commissioner Chew emphasized that while it is customary for the chief guest to review such parades, he wanted to shift the focus to the cadets, their parents, the community, and their teachers, stating, “You are our special guests. You have opened the doors to the Fiji Police Force to work alongside you in empowering Koro High students through this Cadet training.”

Chew acknowledged concerns about youth involvement in criminal activities and offered advice on the importance of discipline. He remarked, “The key factor in determining whether or not you become an offender of crime is your level of discipline. Every decision you make governs every second of your life. Choosing wisely depends on your self-discipline and attitude.”

Addressing issues of discipline in the school, Chew urged students who may have faced struggles with authority to take the opportunity to change their behaviors. He stated, “For those who have had altercations with the principal or teachers—it’s not too late to change. Learn from your mistakes and discipline your mind to secure your future.”

Chew also took the time to speak to parents, guardians, and community members, expressing that children are both the greatest achievement and investment. He appealed to them as a father rather than in his official capacity, urging them to prioritize their children’s safety and well-being.

“Value the moments you have with your children, as they will eventually move on. Never tire in your duty to care for, counsel, and guide them. Be their trusted source of information by spending quality time together.”

He concluded by reminding everyone that while the future is uncertain, it is their responsibility to ensure a safe environment for children today, enabling them to grow and reach their full potential.
