Access to healthcare remains a pressing issue for many Fijians living with diabetes, particularly those in rural and remote areas. While healthcare services are available, the challenge lies in the accessibility of these services. This issue is set to improve thanks to the recent handover of a vehicle from Kontiki Finance Ltd to Diabetes Fiji, a move poised to enhance the organization’s outreach efforts significantly.
During the vehicle handover, Leeanne Dalton, human resources manager at Kontiki Finance, emphasized how this gift would empower Diabetes Fiji’s community programs. The vehicle will enable health workers to travel directly to villages where geographical barriers, transport costs, and limited mobility often deter patients from attending necessary clinics. Dalton pointed out that these barriers have resulted in delayed treatment, missed check-ups, and an increased risk of complications for many families.
Dalton expressed that the partnership with Diabetes Fiji reflects more than just a commitment to corporate responsibility; it represents the company’s core values and dedication to positively impacting the communities it serves. “At Kontiki, our purpose goes beyond providing financial services,” she stated. “It is about standing alongside the community and supporting organizations that are improving lives every day.”
With this new vehicle, Diabetes Fiji plans to expand its outreach activities, which include conducting health screenings, delivering educational sessions, and providing follow-up care directly within underserved communities. The impact of such initiatives is profound, as healthier communities ultimately benefit everyone.
Kini Marawa, executive director of Diabetes Fiji, welcomed this support, describing it as timely and impactful. He expressed gratitude towards Kontiki Finance for recognizing the importance of access to care and for their practical support of Diabetes Fiji’s mission. Marawa acknowledged the essential role that corporate and community partnerships play in enabling the organization to maintain its nationwide programs.
This timely initiative represents a significant step forward in addressing healthcare access challenges, promising a brighter future for many Fijians living with diabetes. Through collaboration and community support, there is hope for a healthier population, moving closer to equitable healthcare for all.
