Fiji Airways men’s rugby sevens head coach Osea Kolinisau has expressed a desire to prioritize family time in the upcoming year. The 39-year-old, originally from Namuka-i-Lau, has spent significant time away from his family, who live in the United States, since he assumed the coaching role in March of last year. Although his wife, Mere Tavu Fa, and their children visit regularly, Kolinisau is eager to create more opportunities to be with them.

“I just want more family time, win the HSBC SVNS series, and strive to be a better person than I was last year,” he stated, reflecting on his personal growth alongside his professional responsibilities. The 2016 Olympic gold medalist recognizes the importance of both personal development and coaching effectiveness.

Under Kolinisau’s leadership, the Fiji men’s rugby team has achieved remarkable success, including a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, which came just months into his coaching tenure. Additionally, the team clinched their first Cup title in Dubai last month, breaking a lengthy 25-tournament dry spell without a victory.

Looking ahead, Kolinisau aims to sustain the team’s strong performance, currently leading the HSBC SVNS series with 36 points, ahead of Spain and France. He has also expressed interest in enhancing his coaching skills by learning from fellow coaches.

Kolinisau will be the ambassador for the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament next week at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, where he will announce the national team for this event. Following the Coral Coast 7s, he will finalize selections for the upcoming Perth 7s tournament scheduled for January 24-26.
