Kolinisau’s New Year Resolution: Family Time and Rugby Glory!

Fiji Airways men’s rugby sevens head coach Osea Kolinisau is looking to balance his professional and personal life more effectively this year. At 39, the Namuka-i-Lau native has spent significant time away from his family, who reside in the United States, since taking on his coaching role in March of last year. His wife, Mere Tavu Fa, and their children frequently visit Fiji, but Kolinisau is eager to increase the time he spends with them.

“I just want more family time, win the HSBC SVNS series, and strive to be a better person than I was last year,” Kolinisau remarked. He recognizes the importance of reflecting on his personal growth while also striving to improve as a coach. The 2016 Olympic gold medalist has identified several areas in his life where he can develop further.

Kolinisau’s coaching journey has already seen remarkable success. Just four months into his role, he led the Fiji men’s team to a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Additionally, he guided them to their first Cup title win in Dubai last month, breaking a 25-tournament winless streak.

As he looks ahead, Kolinisau aims to sustain and build on the team’s impressive performance; they currently lead the HSBC SVNS series with 36 points, ahead of Spain and France. He is committed to enhancing his coaching abilities and plans to learn from other experienced coaches.

Next week, Kolinisau will act as an ambassador for the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, where he will announce the national team for the event. Following this tournament, he will select the team for the upcoming Perth 7s, scheduled for January 24-26.

Kolinisau’s efforts to balance family time with his coaching responsibilities set a positive example for athletes everywhere. His dual focus on personal values alongside professional success affirms that it is possible to achieve personal fulfillment while excelling in sports. As he aims for both enriching family connections and continued success for the Fiji men’s rugby sevens team, there is optimism for a fulfilling year ahead.

In summary, Osea Kolinisau is positioned for a transformative year, emphasizing the importance of family while also leading his team to greater heights. This holistic approach is likely to yield success both on and off the field.
