Fiji 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau expressed his desire to continue in his role when asked about his future with the national team. He has been under a six-month contract with the Fiji Rugby Union since taking over the position in March.
During his four-month tenure, Kolinisau led the Fiji 7s team to a silver medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, despite facing challenges in the 2023-2024 HSBC World Sevens Series. His contract is set to expire next month, but both Kolinisau and the Fiji Rugby Union have shown interest in extending their collaboration.
“I’ll see what they want, I’d like to stay but it’s up to them. A few negotiations will happen, but I’m proud of where we are at right now,” Kolinisau stated. He is scheduled to present his report from the Olympics today, mentioning the need to discuss with the FRU and its board regarding his contract, which is due to end post-Olympics.
Peter Mazey, chair of the FRU Board of Trustees, indicated their intention to retain Kolinisau and allow him to continue coaching the Fiji 7s team for the upcoming rugby sevens season.
