Fiji Airways men’s rugby coach Osea Kolinisau has expressed his desire to prioritize family time this year. The 39-year-old, originally from Namuka-i-Lau, has been away from his family, who reside in the U.S., since he took on the coaching role in March last year. His wife, Mere Tavu Fa, and their children make regular visits to Fiji.

Kolinisau emphasized the importance of family in his life, stating, “I just want more family time, win the HSBC SVNS series, and strive to be a better person than I was last year.” As a 2016 Olympic gold medalist, he evaluated his performance both on and off the field, acknowledging areas for personal growth.

Under his leadership, the national team achieved a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games shortly after he began coaching. Furthermore, the team secured their first Cup title in Dubai last month after a lengthy drought in world tournaments. Looking ahead, Kolinisau aims to sustain this level of performance in the upcoming season. He plans to enhance his coaching skills by learning from other experienced coaches.

Kolinisau will serve as an ambassador at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament next week at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka. After this event, he will select the national team for the Perth 7s tournament scheduled for January 24-26. Currently, the Fiji men’s rugby sevens team is leading the HSBC SVNS series with 36 points, four points ahead of Spain.

This dedication to both his professional and personal life highlights Kolinisau’s commitment as a coach and a family man. His focus on improvement not only for the team but also for himself sets a positive example for athletes and coaches alike. As Kolinisau continues to balance these aspects, there is optimism that both the team’s performance and his personal life will flourish.

In summary, Osea Kolinisau is gearing up for a promising year ahead, aiming to enhance his coaching while also cherishing family time, reflecting a well-rounded approach to his roles.
