Fiji Airways men’s rugby sevens head coach Osea Kolinisau has made clear his intention to prioritize family time in the upcoming year. The 39-year-old, who comes from Namuka-i-Lau, has spent significant time away from his family, who live in the United States, ever since he took over the coaching role in March last year. Although his wife, Mere Tavu Fa, and their children make regular visits to Fiji, Kolinisau is eager to enhance the time he can dedicate to them.

In expressing his aspirations for this year, Kolinisau stated, “I just want more family time, win the HSBC SVNS series, and strive to be a better person than I was last year.” This reflects his commitment to personal growth alongside his professional responsibilities. As a 2016 Olympic gold medalist, he recognizes the importance of focused self-improvement in addition to his coaching career.

Under Kolinisau’s leadership, the Fiji men’s team has achieved notable milestones, including a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games shortly after he assumed his coaching duties. Furthermore, he recently led the team to their first Cup title win in Dubai last month, which ended a challenging 25-tournament dry spell.

Looking ahead, Kolinisau aims to maintain the team’s strong performance, as they currently lead the HSBC SVNS series table with 36 points, four points ahead of Spain. He has also expressed interest in enhancing his coaching skills by learning from experienced coaches.

Next week, Kolinisau will serve as an ambassador for the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, where he will announce the national team for the event. Following that, he will select the squad for the upcoming Perth 7s tournament scheduled for January 24-26.

Kolinisau’s dedication to balancing family commitments with professional responsibilities serves as an uplifting example for many athletes, illustrating that success in sports can coexist with nurturing personal relationships and values. As he prioritizes both family connections and team performance, there is a hopeful outlook for Kolinisau and the Fiji men’s rugby sevens team in 2025, marking a year full of potential for both personal and professional achievements.

In summary, Osea Kolinisau’s focus on enhancing family bonds while leading his team showcases the importance of harmony between personal fulfillment and professional excellence.
