Fiji Airways men’s rugby sevens head coach Osea Kolinisau has expressed a strong desire to prioritize spending more time with his family in the upcoming year. The 39-year-old, who hails from Namuka-i-Lau, has been away from his loved ones who reside in the United States since taking on his coaching role in March of last year. His wife, Mere Tavu Fa, and their children visit regularly, but Kolinisau seeks to enhance the time he can dedicate to them.

“I just want more family time, win the HSBC SVNS series, and strive to be a better person than I was last year,” he reflected, emphasizing both personal and professional growth. As a 2016 Olympic gold medalist, Kolinisau recognizes the value of developing himself in addition to his responsibilities as a coach.

Under his leadership, the Fiji men’s team has achieved commendable milestones, including a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games shortly after his appointment and their first Cup title win in Dubai last month, marking the end of a 25-tournament winless streak. Kolinisau is determined to maintain the consistency of the team’s performance, as they currently lead the HSBC SVNS series with a total of 36 points, ahead of Spain and France.

In addition to his coaching duties, Kolinisau will serve as an ambassador for the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka next week, where he will announce the national team. Following this event, he will select the squad for the upcoming Perth 7s tournament scheduled for January 24-26.

Kolinisau’s commitment to balancing family responsibilities with his professional obligations serves as an inspiring example for athletes everywhere. His focus on nurturing personal relationships while pursuing excellence in sports illustrates the harmony that can exist between personal fulfillment and professional success. This year holds great promise for Kolinisau, with aspirations for both enriching family connections and continuing the winning trajectory of the Fiji men’s rugby sevens team.

In summary, Osea Kolinisau’s journey reflects a determination to enhance both his coaching effectiveness and family life, showcasing the importance of values and relationships in achieving a well-rounded and fulfilling life.
