Fiji Airways men’s rugby coach Osea Kolinisau has expressed his desire to dedicate more time to his family this year. The 39-year-old, originally from Namuka-i-Lau, has been away from his family, who reside in the U.S., since he took on the coaching position in March last year. Despite the physical distance, his wife, Mere Tavu Fa, and their children make regular trips to Fiji to visit.
Kolinisau, a 2016 Olympic gold medalist, emphasized the importance of family and personal development in the coming year. He stated, “I just want more family time, win the HSBC SVNS series and just to be a better person than I was last year.” Recognizing areas for personal improvement, he is committed to enhancing his coaching skills and overall character.
Under Kolinisau’s leadership, the Fiji men’s side achieved notable success, including winning a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games just four months after he began coaching. Additionally, he recently led the team to its first Cup title victory in Dubai after a challenging run of 25 tournaments without a win.
Looking ahead, Kolinisau aims to maintain the team’s excellent performance as they currently lead the HSBC SVNS series standings with 36 points. He indicated his intention to continue learning from other coaches to further refine his approach. As an ambassador for the upcoming McDonalds Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament, he will announce a national team for the three-day event at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, following which he will select the squad for the Perth 7s taking place from January 24-26.
Overall, Kolinisau’s commitment to both his family and his team’s success exemplifies a balance between personal aspirations and professional responsibilities, a journey many can resonate with as they navigate their own life challenges.
In summary, Kolinisau is focused on family time and personal growth while leading Fiji’s rugby team to continued success on the international stage. His thoughtful approach demonstrates a positive mindset that encourages both professional excellence and personal fulfillment.
