Sashi Kiran has been appointed as the new Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, succeeding Lynda Tabuya after her recent dismissal. Following her swearing-in ceremony conducted by President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, Kiran expressed her intention to build upon the groundwork laid by her predecessor. Kiran commended Tabuya for her commitment to the ministry, emphasizing that the mission to empower women and protect children requires a collective effort.
In her statement, Kiran reaffirmed her dedication to addressing ongoing societal challenges. She emphasized that the ministry’s role extends beyond mere policy administration to advocacy and inspiring change, ensuring that every individual in Fiji receives attention and support.
Kiran’s focus will include vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and people with disabilities, highlighting the importance of enhancing social protection programs to make them more inclusive and effective.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced Kiran as Tabuya’s replacement on Boxing Day after Tabuya was removed from her position due to controversy following a leaked video.
This transition of leadership presents an opportunity for the ministry to strengthen its initiatives, fostering a culture of inclusivity and support for those in need. Kiran’s vision reflects a commitment to championing the voices of the marginalized, striving for a brighter and more equitable future for all communities in Fiji.
