The Kings Road in Fiji has been reopened for traffic following the receding of flood waters, according to an announcement from the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA).
However, the FRA urges motorists to remain vigilant. To ensure safety during heavy rain, drivers are advised to exercise caution by reducing their speed, maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, and using low-beam headlights to enhance visibility.
Additionally, the FRA notes that surface flooding in certain areas may cause traffic to be reduced to one lane in parts of Fiji. A flash flood warning is still in effect for low-lying and flash flood-prone regions, particularly in the Western and Northern divisions. Communities in Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki are still experiencing significant water coverage.
In light of these developments, it’s essential for residents and travelers to stay informed and prioritize safety while on the roads. With the reopening of Kings Road, there is hope for improved accessibility and recovery for affected areas as the situation stabilizes.
This situation underscores the importance of preparedness and responsive infrastructure in the face of natural challenges.
