King Charles III expressed his regret for not being able to visit Fiji during his recent tour of the Pacific, which concluded with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa this October. The King conveyed his sentiments while receiving the Letters of Credence from Fiji’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Jovilisi Vulailai Suveinakama, at Buckingham Palace last Thursday.

During the meeting, the High Commissioner was accompanied by his partner, Nancy Evans. King Charles III stated, “I am heartily saddened not to have come to Fiji, but it was doctors’ advice.” He mentioned that he was pleased to meet with Fiji’s Prime Minister at the CHOGM in Samoa and expressed his hope to visit Fiji in the future, sending his regards to the Fijian President.

The King also shared ideas for potentially enhancing economic collaboration, particularly highlighting interests in Fiji’s mahogany and sugar industries. Moreover, he acknowledged the significant contribution of over 2,000 Fijian soldiers currently serving in the British Armed Forces and their role in supporting the defense capabilities of the United Kingdom.

It is noted that Fiji’s High Commission in London represents not just the UK but also has diplomatic accreditation to the Republic of Ireland, the Kingdom of Morocco, and the Holy See.

This statement from King Charles III reflects a strong desire for continued connections between the UK and Fiji, demonstrating the importance of international relationships and the recognition of contributions made by Fijians in the UK.

In summary, King Charles III’s heartfelt acknowledgment of his regret for not visiting Fiji underscores a commitment to fostering relations, potentially leading to fruitful collaborations in various sectors. This shows hope for a strengthened partnership between the nations in the future.
