King Charles III expressed his regrets about not being able to visit Fiji during his recent tour of the Pacific, which concluded at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa this October. His acknowledgment came while he welcomed Fiji’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Jovilisi Vulailai Suveinakama, at Buckingham Palace.

During their meeting, which took place last Thursday, King Charles revealed that his absence from Fiji was due to medical advice he received. However, he conveyed his fondness for the nation, stating, “I am still keen to get to Fiji. Please send my regards to His Excellency the President. Fiji is very much in my heart.” He also expressed satisfaction in meeting Fiji’s Prime Minister at CHOGM.

The King emphasized the potential for enhanced economic collaboration, particularly in developing Fiji’s mahogany and sugar industries. Furthermore, he recognized the invaluable role played by over 2,000 Fijian soldiers currently serving in the British Armed Forces, highlighting their commitment to the UK’s defense capabilities.

This exchange not only reflects King Charles III’s strong ties with Fiji but also opens doors for future collaboration and growth between the nations. The King’s open invitation to engage further indicates a hopeful outlook for the relationship between the UK and Fiji.

In summary, while the King’s visit to Fiji was regrettably missed, the ongoing dialogue and expressions of interest in economic and defense collaboration signify a promising future for Fiji’s connection with the British monarchy.
