King Charles III expressed his disappointment over not being able to visit Fiji during his recent trip to the Pacific. The visit concluded with participation in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa in October.

The King shared his sentiments last Thursday while receiving the Letters of Credence from Fiji’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Jovilisi Vulailai Suveinakama, at Buckingham Palace. The High Commissioner was joined by his partner, Nancy Evans.

“I am heartily saddened not to have come to Fiji, but it was doctors’ advice,” stated King Charles III. He mentioned his pleasure in meeting Fiji’s Prime Minister at CHOGM and expressed a strong desire to visit the island nation in the future. “Please send my regards to His Excellency the President. Fiji is very much in my heart,” he added.

The King also discussed potential opportunities for enhancing economic collaboration, particularly within Fiji’s mahogany and sugar sectors. Furthermore, he acknowledged the valiant contributions of over 2,000 Fijian soldiers serving in the British Armed Forces, recognizing their significant role in the UK’s defense efforts.

Fiji’s High Commissioner, Mr. Suveinakama, also carries diplomatic responsibilities to the Republic of Ireland, the Kingdom of Morocco, and the Holy See, reflecting the broad representation of Fiji on the international stage.

This visit underscores the interest and commitment to strengthening ties between the United Kingdom and Fiji, fostering hope for future collaborations that can yield mutual benefits for both nations.
