King Charles III expressed his disappointment for not being able to visit Fiji during his recent tour of the Pacific, which concluded with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa in October. The King’s feelings were communicated during a reception at Buckingham Palace, where he met with Fiji’s High Commissioner to the UK, Jovilisi Vulailai Suveinakama, last Thursday.
During the meeting, King Charles III mentioned that his absence from Fiji was due to medical advice. He expressed his hope to visit the island nation in the future and conveyed his regards to Fijian President. “Fiji is very much in my heart,” he remarked.
The King took the opportunity to discuss potential enhancements in economic collaboration, with a particular focus on Fiji’s mahogany and sugar industries. Additionally, he recognized the valuable contributions of over 2,000 Fijian soldiers currently serving in the British Armed Forces, acknowledging their essential role in the UK’s defense.
Fiji’s representation in London extends beyond the UK, as High Commissioner Suveinakama is also accredited to the Republic of Ireland, the Kingdom of Morocco, and the Holy See.
This interaction highlights not only the King’s regard for Fiji but also the potential for strengthened ties between the two nations, which could open new doors for collaboration in various sectors, fostering growth and connection.
Overall, there is a sense of hope for future engagement as both the United Kingdom and Fiji work towards enhancing their diplomatic and economic relationships.
