King Charles III expressed his regret at not visiting Fiji during his journey to Samoa for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in October. During a ceremony for the Letters of Credence with Fiji’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Jovilisi Vulailai Suveinakama, he shared his disappointment, explaining that his absence was due to medical advice.

The King stated, “I am heartily saddened not to have come to Fiji…but I am still keen to get to Fiji.” He also requested Suveinakama to convey his warm regards to Fiji’s President, reiterating that Fiji holds a special place in his heart.

Furthermore, King Charles acknowledged and appreciated the contributions of over 2,000 Fijian soldiers currently serving in the British Armed Forces, highlighting the strong ties and mutual respect between the nations.

This sentiment reflects a hopeful outlook for future engagements with Fiji, emphasizing the King’s genuine desire to strengthen relationships and connect with the Fijian people. His acknowledgment of Fijian soldiers also reinforces the cultural and historical bonds that exist between the countries, underscoring a spirit of collaboration and respect.

In summary, King Charles III’s heartfelt remarks underscore his eagerness to visit Fiji and deepen diplomatic ties while recognizing the contributions of Fijians in the military.
