Kickstarting Future Stars: Fiji’s Football Development Program for Kids

Young athletes in Fiji are experiencing an exciting opportunity through the Fiji Football Association’s School Holiday Football Development Programme, taking place at the Fiji FA Academy in Vatuwaqa, Suva. The recent session attracted eager boys and girls aged six to 16, highlighting a nationwide initiative designed to nurture young football talent.

Sushil Singh, the head of football development for the southern region, shared insights about the program’s launch earlier this week. It will run through the upcoming first term and school holidays, inviting both returning participants and newcomers who wish to explore football. “This program is open to all young boys and girls, and we’ve actively promoted it on social media to reach parents,” Singh stated.

The initiative is particularly significant as it provides a structured avenue for young players to develop their skills and potentially pursue national representation. Singh emphasized, “It’s a pathway to help these young talents who have an interest in football develop further and get them ready.”

In addition to the session in Suva, complimentary football programs are being introduced in other regions, such as Lautoka, where children aged seven to 15 can participate without any fees. These programs offer skill development, team games, expert coaching, and friendly competitions, thereby promoting essential values of teamwork and social interaction.

The School Holiday Football Programmes not only foster athletic excellence but also contribute to youth personal development during school breaks. They encourage physical activity, build friendships, and instill a love for the game, ensuring a positive investment in the future of Fiji’s youth.

As these initiatives continue to spread across the nation, they serve as a wonderful opportunity for young people to stay active, connect with peers, and potentially ignite a lifelong passion for football. The ongoing commitment to youth engagement through sports will surely yield significant benefits for communities across Fiji.
