The National Wellness Medics Committee has organized a two-day Wellness Medics Inter-District Football competition at Subrail Park in Labasa, aimed at promoting mental and physical health among healthcare professionals and providing essential public health education. Liaison officer Ravneel Chand announced that this year’s edition, hosted by the Northern Medics Committee, focuses on fostering wellness, camaraderie, and awareness among healthcare workers.
Chand emphasized the high-stress nature of working in the health sector, highlighting the need for initiatives like this tournament to address the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of professionals in the field. The event is designed to not only alleviate professional burnout but also to enhance public awareness about Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), Communicable Diseases (CDs), HIV/AIDS, and drug abuse.
Following the successful inaugural tournament in 2023, Northern Medics FC is enthusiastic about organizing this year’s event with a vision of broader impact. The tournament will bring together healthcare professionals from the Ministry of Health, ASPEN, and various private health sectors across Fiji.
In a significant addition this year, there will also be a wellness screening tent available for the public, offering essential health screenings and awareness activities around critical health issues. This integration of sports and wellness initiatives embodies a community-oriented approach toward enhancing healthcare standards and strengthening professional relationships.
Looking at past events, such as the previous wellness tournaments, there has been a clear trend in fostering unity and health awareness among medical professionals, suggesting that this tournament will enrich team spirit and public health insights even further.
The initiative not only highlights the importance of physical activity and sportsmanship within the medical community but also sets a hopeful direction for future engagement and collaboration towards enhancing public health education and wellness initiatives throughout Fiji.
