The Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) has recently introduced the FIFA Football for Schools (F4S) program in four primary schools in Rotuma, aiming to enhance educational and developmental opportunities for the island’s youth through football. This initiative is being led by Technical Director Timo Jankowski and includes schools such as Malha’a, Paptea, Motusa, and Christ the King Primary.

The young students, both boys and girls, showcased their enthusiasm and teamwork during the sessions, benefiting from the engaging activities designed by the program. To further support this initiative, Fiji FA provided essential football equipment to each school, ensuring that students have the necessary tools to participate effectively.

The F4S program builds on the success of earlier implementations across Fiji, which have reached over 160 schools, including those in remote regions like Yasawa, Kadavu, and Levuka. In recent distributions, the Fiji FA team provided more than 1,600 footballs and additional training equipment to schools, emphasizing their commitment to promoting physical activity and life skills through sport.

The FIFA Football for Schools program is part of a global collaboration with UNESCO, integrating football into school systems to promote education and health for children worldwide. This initiative not only focuses on enhancing physical education but also aims to instill essential values such as teamwork, discipline, and social interaction.

With ongoing efforts in similar programs across Fiji, such as the School Holiday Football Development Programme, the Fiji FA is fostering a brighter future for young athletes. These initiatives significantly enhance community engagement, while also providing children with a safe and nurturing environment to develop a lifelong passion for football.

In essence, the introduction of the F4S curriculum in Rotuma signifies a crucial step towards nurturing the next generation of sports talents in Fiji. As these programs expand, they promote physical well-being and community connections, ensuring that the sport can continue to thrive among the youth.
