Labasa Football Association President Rayaz Khan has announced his resignation from his long-held position, transitioning to a new role as Vice President for the Northern Division at the Fiji Football Association (FFA). His election to this important role was uncontested, highlighting his impressive presence in the football community.

Khan will conclude his tenure with the Labasa Lions at the upcoming Battle of the Giants tournament, marking a poignant farewell as he leads the team one last time. This tournament is set to be held in Labasa next month, and in his presidency, Khan has successfully brought several championship titles home, greatly delighting Labasa’s dedicated fanbase.

His adept leadership and organizational skills are expected to serve as a valuable asset in his new role at FFA headquarters. Amidst this transition, the Fiji FACT tournament will commence this Friday, with matches scheduled for May 30th, 31st, and June 1st, culminating in the semi-finals and final on June 7th and 8th, 2025. Live commentary of the festival will be available on Radio Fiji Two, ensuring fans remain engaged with the excitement of the matches.

This leadership change reflects Khan’s impactful legacy within local football, resonating with previous leadership transitions notably seen in the Fiji Rugby Union, where new governance has also brought forth a promising future for the sport in Fiji. Such transformations underscore a collective commitment to nurture talent and enhance performance across various sports domains.

The positive trajectory of sports leadership in Fiji opens doors for renewed energy and innovation as persons like Khan step into new roles, potentially fostering a thriving ecosystem for both players and fans, and contributing to an ever-developing sports culture in the nation.
