Key Stakeholder Summit for Vanua Levu Mahogany Harvesting

Trustees from six mahogany plantations in Vanua Levu recently held a meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Forestry, the Fiji Mahogany Trust, the Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited, and the iTaukei Land Trust Board in Labasa.

The purpose of the meeting was to promote transparency and engage relevant stakeholders prior to the initiation of harvesting activities.

Uraia Rainima, the Divisional Commissioner for the Northern Division, emphasized the significance of this event for landowners and its connection to the Government’s National Development Plan.

Iowane Naiveli, Chairman of the Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited, underscored the necessity of good governance and the generation of revenue from these operations.

The trustees represent mahogany plantations located in Navonu, Saqani, Seaqaqa, Dreketi, Korotari, and Wainunu.
