Sydney-based goalkeeper Jerome Narayan has been excluded from the Bula Boys squad set to compete in the upcoming MSG Presidents Cup in Honiara, Solomon Islands. He has been replaced by Joela Biuvanua from Nadi.

Veteran players Simione Tamanisau and Akuila Mateisuva will join Biuvanua in the goalkeeper roster for the 23-member squad. Narayan had a significant role in all of Fiji’s World Cup qualifier matches held in Suva and Port Moresby. Other notable overseas-based players, including Captain Roy Krishna, Scott Wara, and Leroy Jennings, will also be part of the squad.

Additionally, 2024 Footballer of the Year Ratu Tevita Waranaivalu will not participate as he takes time off to recuperate from previous injuries. While these absences are significant, they illuminate an opportunity for emerging talents like Samuela Navoce from Ba, Sailasa Ratu, and Penisoni Tirau, as well as Nadi’s Mohammed Ayman and Labasa’s Eparama Moraica, to gain invaluable international experience.

The MSG Prime Minister’s Cup is scheduled to take place in the Solomon Islands from December 9 to 21.

Fiji’s squad includes:

Goalkeepers: Simione Tamanisau, Akuila Mateisuva, Joela Biuvanua

Defenders: Mohammed Aymaan, Ivan Kumar, Mosese Nabose, Samuela Navoce, Gabirielle Matanisiga, Filipe Baravilala, Sterling Vasconsellos

Midfielders: Sitiveni Cavuilagi, Aporosa Yada, Setareki Hughes, Nabil Begg, Sailasa Ratu, Rahul Krishna, Merril Nand, Dave Radrigai

Forwards: Christopher Wasasala, Eparama Moraica, Sairusi Nalabu, Thomas Dunn, Penisoni Tirau

This reshuffling in the squad signifies a keen focus on nurturing younger talent, providing them with opportunities to shine on a larger platform. The upcoming tournament could serve as a crucial stepping stone for these players as they look to make their mark in the international arena.
