Trustees from six mahogany plantations in Vanua Levu held a meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Forestry, Fiji Mahogany Trust, Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited, and the iTaukei Land Trust Board in Labasa.
The discussions aimed at promoting transparency and engaging stakeholders prior to the commencement of harvesting operations.
Uraia Rainima, the Divisional Commissioner Northern, noted the significance of this meeting for landowners and its connection to the Government’s National Development Plan.
Iowane Naiveli, Chairman of Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited, emphasized the importance of good governance and the generation of revenue from these operations.
The trustees represent plantations located in Navonu, Saqani, Seaqaqa, Dreketi, Korotari, and Wainunu.
