Ketenilagi Takes the Helm: New Leadership for Fiji Roads Authority

Apisai Ketenilagi has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA), set to take office on January 2, 2025, for a term of three years. This decision was made by the FRA Board in accordance with the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) Act of 2012.

To ensure the selection of a qualified candidate for the role, the Board enlisted the support of KPMG through its internal Procurement Department. The position was advertised in line with FRA’s recruitment policy, and Ketenilagi was chosen based on recommendations from a three-member interview panel composed of FRA Board Members.

With an impressive background in road infrastructure engineering that spans over three decades, Ketenilagi has made valuable contributions in various areas including highways, rural roads, bridges, marine structures, construction, and asset maintenance. He possesses a diverse set of qualifications which includes a Master of Science in Highway Management and Engineering, an International Masters in Public Administration, a Bachelor of Engineering, and a Diploma in Civil Engineering. He is also recognized as a respected member of professional engineering institutes across Australia, the UK, the USA, Asia, and Australasia.

FRA Board Chairman Atunaisa Nayago expressed confidence in Ketenilagi’s appointment, stating that his extensive experience and expertise in infrastructure development position him as an ideal leader for the organization. Nayago remarked, “The Board is confident in Apisai’s ability to strengthen the FRA’s performance and deliver on our commitment to providing safe and sustainable infrastructure for Fiji. We look forward to his leadership in advancing FRA’s goals and addressing the challenges of our rapidly evolving infrastructure landscape.” He also extended congratulations to Ketenilagi and emphasized the Board’s eagerness to collaborate in achieving significant milestones.

The appointment of Ketenilagi reflects a positive step forward for the Fiji Roads Authority, and with his vast experience, there is hope for progress in maintaining and enhancing the nation’s infrastructure.
