Fiji-born Wallabies centre Samu Kerevi will miss the remainder of the Wallabies’ European tour due to a suspension stemming from a dangerous tackle during the match against Wales. Kerevi received a red card in the second half of Australia’s 52-20 victory over the Welsh team in Cardiff on Sunday. Following an independent disciplinary review, he was sanctioned with a three-week suspension, which means he will not participate in the upcoming match against Scotland.
Though Kerevi was set to miss the match against Scotland, the Wallabies confirmed that he was already scheduled to return to Japan for club rugby and would not be available for their final tour match against Ireland on November 30. This recent match against Wales marked Kerevi’s first appearance since the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
With Kerevi sidelined, Joseph Sua’ali’i, who recently transitioned from rugby league and made his Wallabies debut in the victory against England, may have the opportunity to rejoin the team after being named as a substitute for the game against Wales.
This situation presents both challenges and opportunities for the Wallabies. While Kerevi’s absence is undoubtedly a loss for the team, it opens the door for emerging talent like Sua’ali’i to step up and make a significant impact on the pitch. As the team looks forward to building a strong foundation for future competitions, this could be a crucial moment for younger players to prove their worth in the international arena.
