The Portsmouth Kelland Brothers team from Narere celebrated a proud achievement as they triumphed over New Town with a score of 20-10 in the semifinal of the Ram Sami Nasinu Rugby Union weekly club competition at the USP grounds yesterday.
The match was fiercely contested, with both teams tied 10-10 at halftime. However, Narere displayed superior performance in the second half. Manasa Naquruwale executed an impressive drop goal kick, putting his team ahead at 13-10. This was followed by a remarkable diving try in the corner by Kitione Waqa, solidifying their win with a final score of 20-10.
Coach Avili Duwaqatabu expressed gratitude for the victory, attributing their success to hard work and divine support. He praised the team’s unity and perseverance, which were crucial in overcoming various challenges.
“This win is a testament to the strength and dedication of our team. We thank the almighty for being our strength from the beginning,” said Naquruwale. Duwaqatabu also highlighted their focus on the upcoming final, stating, “I am really proud of the boys. Our aim is now set on the final. There is still work left to be done, and we are eagerly looking forward to it.”
He also acknowledged the unwavering support of fans and families, who turned out in green to cheer them on.
