Army forward Kavekini Tanivanuakula is making a determined effort to return to the Fiji Airways Men’s 7s team for the upcoming Singapore 7s tournament after being sidelined for six months due to a significant shoulder injury. The Bukuya-born player has expressed his commitment to regaining his peak performance level, fueled by his faith and support from his family.

Following a recent scrimmage against the British Army at Albert Park, Tanivanuakula attributed his recovery and subsequent call-up to the national squad to divine support. “I was out for six months due to my injury, but through God’s providence, I’ve recovered, and it’s been a call to work on my fitness,” he stated.

Tanivanuakula highlighted his parents as his primary motivators, who have consistently backed and guided him throughout his rugby journey. Notably, he has tasted success at the Coral Coast Fiji 7s tournament, winning in both 2022 and 2023, first with the Army team and then with the Fiji Blues.

The player emphasized the team’s solid preparations, focusing on enhancing communication and defensive strategies ahead of the tournament. Head coach Osea Kolinisau has expressed high expectations for the event, particularly for young athletes and returning players to gain valuable experience against tough competitors.

“The experience gained from playing against top teams like the USA, British Army, New Zealand, and Australia is invaluable for our young players,” Kolinisau explained. Tanivanuakula has previously participated in the tournament, earning victories with different teams, though he shared that his recent experience with the Fiji Babas was less favorable, as the squad failed to reach the quarter-finals, indicating the intense competition present in the tournament.

The comeback of Kavekini Tanivanuakula serves as an inspiring narrative of resilience and determination, reflecting the enduring spirit of athletes in the face of adversity. With the support of his parents and his faith strengthening his resolve, fans and supporters alike will be eager to see how he performs in Singapore.
