A new state-of-the-art kindergarten, Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharm Kindergarten, officially opened earlier this month, funded by a generous donation from the Tappoo Group of Companies. The $26,000 facility will serve as a hub for early learning and play for children in Kavanagasau and neighboring communities, located approximately 18 kilometers from Sigatoka Town.

Jitendra Kumar, head of the school, warmly welcomed guests at the opening ceremony and expressed gratitude to the Tappoo Group for their support. He emphasized the importance of the playcentre in nurturing the next generation, stating that education extends beyond traditional classrooms to include spaces that inspire creativity.

“This grand opening of the Early Childhood Education (ECE) playcentre is a significant milestone for quality education in the Nadroga Navosa education district,” Mr. Kumar remarked.

The new playcentre honors the late Tappoo Kanji, a pioneering student of the school and a significant figure in the Tappoo family legacy. During the ceremony, Kanti Tappoo, chairperson of the Tappoo Group, shared personal insights into his family’s long-standing connection to the school, which dates back to his father’s enrolment in 1933.

“This playcentre represents not just a donation but our family’s bond with this community and underscores the value of early education,” Mr. Tappoo added. The Tappoo Group’s commitment to the institution extends past this project; last year, they donated $12,500 worth of Information Technology equipment to the school’s computer lab. This year’s focus is on improving learning for younger students, reinforcing their ongoing support of the rural school.

Janice Nath, Education Officer for Nadroga Navosa, praised the Tappoo Group for their vision in promoting lifelong learning. “The playcentre will benefit not only the children of Kavanagasau but also embody the Ministry of Education’s commitment to innovation and quality education,” Ms. Nath remarked. She emphasized the foundational role of early childhood education in shaping future learning and expressed confidence that the facility would create an inviting environment for students.

The Kavanagasau Kindergarten ECE playcentre is expected to significantly impact the lives of its young attendees, aiding their social, emotional, and physical development in a supportive environment. With collaboration from the Tappoo Group, school management, and the Ministry of Education, the playcentre aims to become a cornerstone of community education. The event concluded with a commemorative plaque unveiling, symbolizing the joint effort behind this achievement and the community’s dedication to providing a strong educational start for children.

In another achievement, Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharam Primary School celebrated a 100 percent pass rate in last year’s Fiji Eighth Year Examination, marking their second consecutive year of such success. Mr. Kumar attributed this accomplishment to the teamwork of dedicated teachers and parents. Among the successful students was Lice Vuliasi from the Kavanagasau settlement, who achieved the highest score. Mr. Kumar remarked that the school plans to continue its diligent efforts, noting that they have addressed weaknesses from the previous year to maintain their high standards.
