The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has announced that it is currently awaiting post-mortem results to ascertain the cause of death of an infant in Kavala. In a statement, the Ministry expressed its heartfelt condolences to the family affected by this unfortunate incident.

Officials confirmed that they are coordinating with the medical team involved and that all necessary procedures, including notifications to relevant authorities, have been strictly followed. As the investigations progress, the Ministry has urged parents and caregivers to remain vigilant, especially given the hot and humid weather that can heighten the risk of illnesses among young children.

Health officials emphasize the dangers posed by extreme heat, which can exacerbate dehydration and other health issues, particularly in children under the age of five. Parents are advised to seek immediate medical attention if their child exhibits symptoms such as fever, cough, vomiting, or diarrhea. The Ministry underscored the vitality of early medical intervention, encouraging caregivers not to hesitate in bringing sick children to health facilities.

In light of the current weather conditions, caregivers are reminded to focus on preventing dehydration by administering Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) in small, frequent amounts and ensuring that infants are breastfed more often. It is also crucial for parents to carefully monitor their children for warning signs of illness and return to a health facility promptly if symptoms arise.

Additionally, the Ministry highlighted the importance of maintaining good hygiene practices, including regular handwashing, and keeping children in cool, shaded areas while dressing them in light clothing. Parents are advised to continue providing nourishment to children who are willing to eat.

The Ministry is committed to sharing further information as it becomes available following the completion of the autopsy. This situation serves as a reminder for communities to prioritize the health and safety of their children, particularly during extreme weather conditions.
