Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka called for a reduction in kava consumption during the Tailevu Provincial Council meeting held at Vuci Village on Wednesday. He emphasized the need for the community to address the increasing rates of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the country.

The council meeting serves as a venue to discuss and tackle social issues affecting local communities. Mr. Rabuka highlighted the importance of village leaders implementing strategies to regulate kava use while also empowering individuals to better handle the challenges they face amid these unprecedented times.

He noted several emerging issues among Fijians, advocating for a united approach to enhance lives and build resilience. Mr. Rabuka commended the province’s Strategic Development Plan, which aligns with the government’s objectives. He expressed that the council would prioritize development in the current year, underscoring that effective leadership is crucial to achieving their collective goals.
