Fiji’s cruiserweight champion Alivereti Kauyaca is aiming for a significant victory over Paulo Ratumaikoro at the Vodafone Arena in Suva on February 22. This win is crucial for Kauyaca as he seeks to secure opportunities for major overseas fights.

Kauyaca expressed the importance of this bout during an interview, stating, “I need this win because I’m in a build-up phase.” He emphasized that to compete for regional titles, similar to the one he faced John Parker for, he needs to achieve two or three additional victories.

Highlighting a common concern among Fijian athletes, Kauyaca pointed out that many boxers often cite a lack of resources as a barrier to success. However, he noted that past Fijian boxers have reached the top 15 in world rankings, despite facing similar challenges. “We need game time as we need records as we age,” he added, stressing the importance of staying active early in the year for accumulating experience and building records.

Kauyaca believes that the key to success lies in discipline and consistency. He urged local boxers to adopt a more professional approach to their training and mindset, steering away from traditional post-fight celebrations that undermine their discipline. “You just need hard work and with divine intervention everything will fall in place if you utilise the available resources and put in those hard yards,” he noted.

As Kauyaca prepares to train in Nadi after the Bluewater promotions launch, he remains optimistic about the potential for Fijian athletes. “We can make our own world champion here in Fiji,” he encouraged, leaving fans hopeful for a brighter future in Fijian boxing.

In summary, Alivereti Kauyaca is poised for a critical fight that could pave the way for his career. His determination underlines a broader message about the importance of discipline, hard work, and making the most of available resources in achieving success in sports.
