Outgoing President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere reflected on his time in office during a speech at a Judicial Officers’ Workshop Dinner in Nadi last Friday. He addressed judges and magistrates, reminding them of their appointment under the 2013 Constitution of the Republic of Fiji, which designates him as the Head of State and their appointing officer following the advice of the Judicial Services Commission.

Ratu Wiliame shared his experience, stating, “It has always been an honour to meet and converse with you during such times.” He acknowledged that this marks the end of his final term in office, having served for three years, during which he observed significant progress within the judiciary sector.

He emphasized the importance of the judiciary as a vital branch of government, asserting that reflection is key for evaluating past decisions and actions. This process enables judicial officers to make informed choices moving forward, enhancing their commitment to serve the community and the nation.

Furthermore, he urged the attendees to recognize their roles as guardians of the rule of law, highlighting the heavy responsibility of public trust that comes with their profession.
