Vuate Karawalevu, a utility player for the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, is determined to secure the fullback position in the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season. The 23-year-old, a graduate of Marist Brothers High School, recently expressed his ambitions following the Drua’s pre-season victory over the Los Angeles Rugby Football Club, where they won 33-26 at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Karawalevu shared that the fullback position has been his goal, acknowledging a gap in this role for Fiji. He emphasized the team’s commitment to addressing their weaknesses, particularly focusing on fitness in the two weeks leading up to their first match against the ACT Brumbies. “I just need to go more with the Fijian Drua, hopefully, we reach the semi-finals if everything goes well,” he said, focusing on the team’s collective ambition to win.

The young player is particularly excited about the opportunity to face his former club, the Waratahs, on February 28. He highlighted the importance of team cohesion both on and off the field, noting that the Drua has a unique culture that fosters strong relationships among players. “It feels good to come back home, surrounded by family and friends who support you,” he stressed.

Additionally, Karawalevu reflected on the special experience of playing in front of local fans during their recent match, attributing significant motivation to their support. He called on supporters worldwide to back the team during their upcoming games, especially against the Brumbies.

This season looks promising for the Fijian Drua, with Karawalevu’s drive and the team’s passion hinting at potentially greater achievements ahead. Given his previous performances, including scoring a try during his debut for the Flying Fijians against Samoa, fans are optimistic about the contributions he will bring to the Drua in the upcoming season. The combination of local talent, motivation to succeed, and fan support could pave the way for an exciting year for Fijian rugby.
