Kamikamica’s Timber Tour: Insights from NZ’s Largest Sawmill

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, recently visited Red Stag Timber, a privately owned timber company located in Rotorua, New Zealand.

Red Stag Timber stands as the largest timber company in the Southern Hemisphere, producing more than 600,000 cubic meters of Radiata Pine and Douglas-fir timber annually, generating an impressive turnover exceeding NZ $220 million. The company is well-known for its commitment to innovative practices and sustainable timber production.

During the visit, DPM Kamikamica focused on understanding the success of one of New Zealand’s largest sawmills, which supplies high-quality timber to markets in New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific region.

He recognized the innovative approaches and supply chain advancements that Red Stag Timber has achieved, expressing that collaboration with industries in Fiji could yield significant benefits. By adopting modern technology and best practices, Fiji could develop strategies for enhancing its forestry sector, particularly with mahogany, which is a key export for the country.

DPM Kamikamica extended his gratitude to Red Stag Timber for the insights gained during the visit and expressed eagerness for future collaboration in the timber industry.
