Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica has dismissed allegations circulating on social media regarding political meddling in the appointment of Barbara Malimali as the Commissioner of FICAC. In an interview, Kamikamica characterized the claims as absurd and disrespectful to the Judicial Services Commission, which operates independently and is led by the Acting Chief Justice. He expressed disappointment that the individual making these assertions is currently abroad, suggesting that if she were in Fiji, legal action would have already been taken against her. “Her claims are ludicrous. It saddens me that anyone would consider her a credible source. It’s unfortunate that she’s hiding overseas; otherwise, she would face legal consequences,” Kamikamica stated.
